Tour itinerary (in brief)

We leave Belfast, the capital of Nothern Ireland and the 2nd largest city on the Island of Ireland heading for the ancient and historic town of Downpatrick. Saint Patrick was reputedly buried here in 461 within the grounds of Down Cathedral. His grave is still a place of pilgrimage on St Patricks Day. The Visitor Centre at Downpatrick recalls the story of St. Patrick.

Downpatrick Cathedral
We carry on to county Louth to the 5th century ruins of the early Christian settlement of Monasterboice. The site houses two churches built in the 14th century or later and an earlier round tower, but it is most famous for its 10th century high crosses.
Next we will take in Slane as we make our way around the beautiful Boyne Valley. St. Patrick lit a bonfire on the Hill of Slane in defiance of paganism heralding the begining of Christianity in Ireland. The Boyne Valley is also famous for the Battle of the Boyne in 1690

Our next stop before we get to Dublin is The world famous Neolithic passage tomb at Newgange which was constructed over 5,000 years ago making it older than Stonehenge in England and the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt.
