Born and raised in the vibrant city of Cork, in the south of Ireland, Alan's early life instilled in him a deep appreciation for his homeland.
Upon graduating from University College Cork, a desire to explore the wider world led him to a dynamic career in the Telecoms industry.
This journey took him through London, Dublin, Northern Ireland, and the South of France, broadening his horizons and professional experience.
A significant chapter in Alan's career involved a partnership with the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), culminating in his leadership of their Telecoms venture, Gaelic Telecom.
Under his guidance, the initiative successfully raised millions of euros, which were strategically reinvested by the GAA into grassroots sports and community development across all 32 counties of Ireland.
During this period, while based extensively in South Armagh in Northern Ireland, Alan gained valuable insights into the complexities of the Peace Process and actively contributed to fostering understanding and reconciliation within the diverse communities of the island.
In 2007, Alan embarked on a transformative career shift, spending the subsequent fourteen years working within a US Department of Defence program across Iraq, Afghanistan, Jordan, and Kuwait.
This period proved to be an exceptionally enriching and insightful phase of his professional life.
Notably, his work allowed him to facilitate visits to Ireland for American groups, often utilizing the services of Butlers Tours, where he was consistently impressed by their exceptional standards.
Returning to Ireland full-time post-Covid, Alan reflected on his passions and found himself drawn back to the positive experiences he had with Butlers Tours.
This led him to join their team, a decision he describes as one of his best.
This role perfectly blends his love for history, nature, Ireland, and travel, while also allowing him to continue his connection with American visitors.
Travel remains Alan's overarching passion, having explored numerous corners of the globe both professionally and with his family.
His other interests include reading, politics, and a perpetual quest for new adventures.
During the winter months, he shares his insights on a weekly radio show on UCC radio.
Alan and his family are also proud owners of Lou, a poodle actively involved in the My Canine Companion Program, providing vital support dogs for children with autism.
Committed to his community, Alan is involved in several Irish charities and deeply values his role in contributing to the fabric of Irish society.
For Alan, every tour is a rewarding experience. He believes that sharing the beauty and heritage of Ireland with visitors is a privilege, and his mission is to ensure each guest departs with unforgettable memories of their time in his cherished country.
